The capital of Antioquia has received world recognition for its Christmas decorations that have, year after year, flooded its streets. In 2018, it was recognized by the US newspaper, USA Today, as one of the 25 Stunning Christmas Light Displays Around the World. The list also included cities such as Monterrey and Rio de Janeiro, and others in Germany, Italy and Canada.

Medellín is also the only city in Latin America that belongs to LUCI (Lighting Urban Community International). ✨

“Alumbrados EPM, tradiciones que iluminan la Navidad” (EPM Christmas Lights, traditions that illuminate the season) is the name that this year receives the decoration of the Christmas Lights Festival in Medellín. The festival of lights is inspired by Antioquian traditions and will have its main meeting points in the Parque Norte and Parques del Río venues. But the circuit of lights, consisting of 27 million LED bulbs, will cover 25 kilometers around the city. Locals and visitors will be able to enjoy more than 32,000 figures that 220 artisans have built.   The city’s Christmas attractions won’t end there. The shopping centers are prepared to receive thousands of visitors and captivate them with a magical atmosphere, typical of the Christmas season. That is one of the reasons Medellín has become an important shopping destination, due to the development of its textile industry.

El Tesoro Parque Comercial

The Christmas lights of this commercial park covers all over its 186,000 square meters.

Beyond the Christmas decorations, this commercial complex has organized activities for the whole family in its four internal squares, with the purpose of rescuing the traditions among boys and girls.   Among the most iconic moments visitors may find the Rudolf’s Parade, which runs through the halls from Tuesdays to Fridays at 6 p.m., and on Saturdays at 4 p.m., until December 21st.

In Plaza Luces, the commercial park gives visitors the opportunity to sponsor 1,300 children with letters hanging from the ceiling. If the Christmas spirit takes hold of you, do not hesitate to take one of the letters and make a dream come true.
