Medellín in full cultural swing:
what's on from October to December

There are times of the year in Medellín when everyone seems to agree on one thing: it’s time to go out. October arrives with music, film, art and celebrations that spread to stages all over the city; November changes the mood and puts dance and the audiovisual arts in the spotlight; December brings lights, traditions and plans to share.

If you’re thinking about visiting Medellín in the last months of the year, this calendar can help you choose when to come, and also show you what’s happening in the city beyond the main event.

October: music, diversity and a city that speaks up

October started loud. The Festival Internacional Altavoz (Altavoz International Festival), from October 10 to 12, brought together 59 bands and artists from Medellín, the rest of Colombia and abroad in a celebration of different sounds and music scenes. Admission was free. Altavoz Festival 2026.

Altavoz had that thing festivals have once they’ve put down roots in a city: going to see bands was only part of the plan. It was born in 2004 as Medellín’s bet on opening stages for new music, and since then it has become an important platform for artists and scenes that found a place there to be heard. It was a chance to meet the music being made in Medellín at the time, and the crowds who came from different places to live it. For the full lineup and venues, check the events calendar at medellin.travel.

Other voices rise across the city

The Fiesta de la Diversidad Cultural (Cultural Diversity Festival), on October 24 and 25, brings together music, dance, crafts, experiences and conversations around different identities, traditions and ways of life. Cultural Diversity Festival 2026. It’s one of those dates that help you understand that Medellín’s culture doesn’t speak with a single voice or celebrate in a single way. Accents, music, flavors, memories and different ways of living the city all come together during these days.

October also brings the Temporada Cultural Medellín 2026 (Medellín Cultural Season), with programming in venues across the city. Museums, theaters and other spaces are preparing activities, tours, workshops and gatherings that fill the cultural calendar for several weeks. Medellín Cultural Season 2026. And if museums are your thing, the Coleccionistas de Museos (Museum Collectors) challenge invites you to visit 33 of the city’s museums before November 30.

You can pick an exhibition, a show, a concert or a tour and build the rest of your day around it.

November: stories told on screen and through movement

From November 3 to 8, it’s time for Miradas Medellín, a festival devoted to film and the audiovisual arts, with programming at different venues around the city. Miradas Medellín Festival.

It’s a good time for anyone who enjoys discovering stories from a cinema seat, talking about them afterwards and finding new ways of looking at who we are and what’s going on around us (fittingly, that’s exactly what miradas means in Spanish).

A few days later, from November 17 to 22, comes DanzaMed, a space devoted to local dance and to exchanges with dance schools from Colombia and abroad. DanzaMed 2026.

Here, dance has its own way of telling Medellín’s story: with no elaborate explanations, words step aside so the body, movement and music can express the city’s places, its memory, its identity and the ways a city comes face to face with itself.

November also paves the way for December with the Festival Internacional de Bandas Musicomarciales (International Marching Band Festival), scheduled for November 28 and 29.

December: the month Medellín lights up

And then December arrives.

The Festival de Navidad (Christmas Festival) runs throughout December with more than 120 free activities built around art, music, traditions and the alumbrados, Medellín’s famous Christmas light displays. The program reaches neighborhoods and rural districts all across the city. Christmas Festival 2026.

But Christmas in Medellín goes beyond the lights: it’s in the parks, the plazas, the neighborhoods, the family gatherings and that very local habit of turning any street corner into a meeting point. There will be Christmas plazas, caravans, art corridors, open-air stages, cultural activities and the traditional Desfile de Mitos y Leyendas (Myths and Legends Parade). Christmas Festival 2026

It’s probably one of the best times of the year to explore the city without rushing. One activity can take you to a neighborhood you didn’t know and, from there, another plan that wasn’t on your itinerary may turn up.

A calendar to build your own trip

Three months, many ways to experience Medellín.

You can come for a music festival and end up discovering a museum. Arrive for a film and stay for a show. Choose December for the lights and end up getting to know a tradition that wasn’t on your list.

The cultural calendar works best when it isn’t confined to a single stage. It lives in the big events, but also in independent spaces, neighborhoods, theaters, museums, plazas and the gatherings that pop up around each date.

Check the events calendar at medellin.travel before you travel and plan your route by date, neighborhood and the kind of experience you’re looking for.

Because you can arrive in Medellín with your checklist on paper, saved in your phone’s calendar or put together with our City Hosts (Anfitriones de Ciudad). But the good stuff also comes from leaving room for whatever shows up next. Go with the flow!
