July in Medellín: Plans to Experience the City in Motion

Medellín draws visitors year-round, but July has a particular pull. It’s when several of the city’s biggest events happen at once — fashion weeks, a national crafts fair, a night run through the streets — and when the hills around Santa Elena start quietly preparing for something much larger. If you’re thinking about when to come, this is a pretty convincing answer

July 10–19: Expoartesano – La Memoria

Hay una forma de recorrer Colombia sin salir de Medellín.

Here’s one way to travel through Colombia without leaving Medellín: spend a few hours at Expoartesano – La Memoria. More than 600 artisans from all 32 departments of the country gather at Plaza Mayor to share the crafts, techniques and knowledge that have been passed down through generations.

This isn’t a craft market where pieces sit behind glass. The makers are there in person — weaving, carving, molding — and genuinely happy to talk about what they do and where it comes from. There’s also regional food, cultural demonstrations and a lot of things you won’t find anywhere else. The 2026 edition runs under the theme “Hands That Tell Stories” and expects more than 40,000 visitors. If you like the kind of travel that teaches you something, this one’s hard to miss.

July 25–31: Colombiamoda — when the city puts on its best

Every year, Colombiamoda turns Medellín into Latin America’s fashion capital. The 37th edition runs July 25–31 and for the first time spans a full seven days: an Opening Show on the 25th, the Wellness Warm Up on the 26th, the Opening Runway on the 27th, three days of trade shows at Plaza Mayor from the 28th to 30th, and a Closing Show on the 31st.

But fashion in Medellín doesn’t begin or end at Plaza Mayor. A few blocks away, La Candelaria is where the city’s textile history lives — a neighborhood of workshops, fabric stores and family businesses that quietly built Medellín’s reputation as Colombia’s fashion capital long before the runways arrived. In El Poblado, Vía Primavera offers independent labels, local boutiques and creative spaces that give the whole thing a different feel. And if shopping is part of the plan, places like El Tesoro, Oviedo, San Diego and Gran Plaza bring national and international brands together in a way that makes the most of being in this city.

July is also the best time to visit Santa Elena

Most people wait until August to visit Santa Elena. We’d suggest going sooner.

July is when the silletera families start building the flower arrangements — silletas — that will be carried through the streets of Medellín during the traditional parade. The Feria de las Flores officially begins on July 31, but the real story starts weeks earlier, up in the hills, on the farms where the flowers grow and where the tradition has been alive for more than six decades.

Visiting a silletera farm in July means seeing the process from the beginning: the flower beds, the first cuts, the slow assembly of something that will take weeks to finish. It’s quiet and unhurried, and it puts the Desfile de Silleteros — the parade on August 9th, in its 69th edition — in a context that makes it mean a lot more when you finally see it.

Which one do you start with?

The honest answer is you don’t have to pick just one. July in Medellín is the kind of month where you could spend a morning at Expoartesano, catch a runway show in the evening, run through the city at night on the 11th, and still have time to head up to Santa Elena before the Feria begins.

Medellín has always been good at giving you more than you came for. July is one of the months it does that most naturally.
