The Desires Park was a great bet similar to that of the Planetarium, the Explora Park, and the Botanical Garden to transform the environment of tourist places in Medellín. The innovative and disruptive touch of its design has made it worthy of several recognitions and awards.

This urban park manages to create a synergy between cultural and social differences, which brings together many purposes in one place; from being a suitable space for artistic activities such as concerts, film screenings, and workshops, to be a pleasant place for rest and passive recreation in the middle of the city.

The Desires Park has become an outstanding cultural meeting center. In addition, it has a valuable space for the musicians of Medellín: the House of Music. In this modern building, local and foreign artists have the opportunity to train, assemble, and rehearse at no cost, thus promoting the artistic growth of the city and the region. In addition to having exhibition rooms, the stage for screenings, and an urban lobby surrounded by gastronomic offerings.

In the middle of the 12,000 square meters that compose it, it hides great lessons and a lot of fun. The children find it a place of recreation with some interactive experiences such as the water fountains and the sandbox. In addition, you will find eight different recreational attractions that tell us about the evolution, developments, achievements, dreams, and desires of humanity in different times, allowing visitors to be amazed by those primitive systems, these are:

Voices at a Distance: two parabolic surfaces that meet each other at a certain distance. One becomes a sound concentrator, being the receiver of the sounds that are produced in the other.

Celeste Sphere: this attraction shows at night the exact location of the stars and constellations visible from Medellín.

Solar Clock: this work indicates the time, projecting the sunlight on curved surfaces.

Constellations: at the bottom of the water mirror the exact position of the stars is projected in the celestial equatorial strip.

Heliostat: projects the sun’s rays on the central square and creates an effect that shows the proportional movement of the sun and the planets Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars.

Muisca Observatory: it is a replica of the Muisca Astronomical Observatory, where the cardinal points, sunrise, and sunset at the solstices and equinoxes are also located.

Solar Eclipse: it is a six-meter sculpture, which is made up of a hole that represents the sun, and an inverted pendulum disk that creates the sensation of an eclipse.

Location and how to get to Desires Park

Desires Park is located in commune 4 of Medellín (Aranjuez), on Calle 71. It is a very central point of the city that can be reached very easily.

Metro: the Universidad Metro de Medellín station has direct access to the main square of the Park, you won’t have to get lost.

Bus: there are many buses that go to the Park, as it has become a meeting point. Some of the routes that can serve you are: Copacabana, Aranjuez, Transmedellín, Castilla, Santa Cruz, Andalucía la Francia, Santo Domingo, Bello, Ruta de la Salud, Robledo and Eastern Routes of our region (El Santuario and Marinilla).

Architecture and design of Desires Park

Everything in the architectural design is very well thought out and has a why. It manages to promote spatial diversity, giving place to all tastes. People can enjoy Desires Park in open or closed places, external or internal, in the sun or in the shade, among others. In addition, being consistent with the wide range of activities that take place there, spaces were enabled for rest and observation, but also others such as rotating benches, group rest, and chairs covered with pergolas, to support recreational activities.

The slopes are also oriented and very well thought out to be used as bleachers in artistic and cultural activities, whether they are concerts, film screenings, or presentations. The screen is the façade of the Planetarium and the top floor of the Music of House, the projection room. Felipe Uribe de Bedout, the Colombian architect responsible for this space, managed to create a place of intense cultural activity, which encourages meeting and enjoyment.

Rates and programming of Desires Park

The programming at Desires Park varies from concerts, workshops, talks, storytelling, aerobics, film screenings, launches, artistic presentations, and much more.

All the events proposed for this space are free and open access. The hours of the House of Music are from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. from Tuesday to Sunday.
